(=alt.word)  ·  (added word)  ·  [omit]

And I, Paul, myself appeal (to) you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ – who (am) humble according to face(=face to face) in(=with) you, but being absent am bold toward you.

And I beg (you that) being(=when I am present) not to be bold(=I may not be bold) (with) the confidence (by) which I think(=intend) to be bold against some thinking of us as ones walking according to (the) flesh.

For walking in flesh, we do not wage war according to (the) flesh,

for the weapons of our warfare (are) not fleshy but powerful (in) [the] God to(=for) destruction of strongholds. Destroying(=we destroy) arguments

and every high thing(=arrogance) being exalted against the knowledge of God, and taking captive(=we take captive) every thought to the obedience of Christ,

and having in readiness(=we are ready) to punish every disobedience, when your obedience [might] is fulfilled.

You look at the things according to face(=appearance). If anyone is convinced(# perfect as present) (in) himself to be Christ’s(=that he is Christ’s), let him again think this for himself, that just as he (is) Christ’s, so also are we.

For even if I should boast somewhat more about our authority, which the Lord gave (us) for edification and not for your destruction, I will not be ashamed (of it),

lest I [might] seem [as it were] to frighten you through(=with) the letters.

For they say, “The(=His) letters are indeed weighty and strong, but the presence of (his) body (is) weak, and the word(=his preaching) having been despised(=is contemptible).

Let such a person think this, that what we are (in) [the] word through(=by) letters being absent(=when we are absent), such (we will be) also (in) [the] work being present(=when we are present).

For we do not dare to classify or compare ourselves (with) some of the ones commending themselves. But they, measuring themselves in(=by) themselves and comparing themselves (with) themselves, do not understand(=are not wise).

But we will not boast beyond measures(=limits), but according to the measure(=within the limits) of the sphere which [the] God of measure has assigned to us, to reach even as far as you.

For we are not overextending ourselves, as not reaching to you(=as though we did not reach you), for we came even as far as you in(=with) the gospel of Christ,

not boasting(=we do not boast) beyond measures(=limits), (that is), in (the) labors of others, but having hope(=we have hope), being grown of your faith(=that as your faith increases)1, to be enlarged in abundance(=our sphere may be greatly enlarged) among you according to(=in) our sphere,

to preach the gospel in the (spheres) beyond you, not to boast in the things ready(=of work already accomplished by another) in another’s sphere.

But, “Let the boasting one boast in (the) Lord.”

For the one commending himself, that one is not approved, but (the one) whom the Lord commends.
