(=alt.word)  ·  (added word)  ·  [omit]

And some, having come down from [the] Judaea, were teaching the brothers, (saying) “Unless you are circumcised (by) the custom(#dative of cause) of Moses, you are not able to be saved.”

And having happened of no little(=considerable, Lucan usage) dissension and debate with them(=when big dissension and debate with them happened)1 to Paul and to Barnabas, they appointed Paul and Barnabas and some others from(=among) them to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.

Therefore, having been escorted by the church, they were passing through [the] both Phoenicia and Samaria, recounting the conversion of the Gentiles. And they were causing great joy to all the brothers.

Having arrived at Jerusalem, they were welcomed from(=by) the church and the apostles and the elders. They reported all things that God did with them.

And some of the ones from the sect of the Pharisees, (who) having believed, stood forth saying, “[that] It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command to keep the law of Moses.”

And the apostles and the elders came together to see about this matter.

And much debate’s having taken place(=when much debate had taken place)2, having risen up, Peter said (to) them, “Men, Brothers! You know that from early days [the] God chose among you, through my mouth for the Gentiles to hear the word of the gospel and to believe.”

“And the Knower of hearts, God, witnessed to them, having given (them) the Holy Spirit just as (did) to us.”

“And he distinguished nothing between us and them, having cleansed by [the] faith their hearts.”

“Now therefore, why do you test [the] God, to put(=by putting) a yoke on the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?”

“But through the grace of the Lord Jesus, we believe to be saved in the same way as they (are).”

And all the multitude was silent, and they were hearing of explaining by Barnabas and Paul, what signs and wonders [the] God did among the Gentiles through them.
And after for them to be silent(=they finished speaking), James answered saying, “Men, Brothers! Listen to me.”

“Simon explained how God firstly visited to take a people from the Gentiles for his name.”

“And the words of the prophets agree to this, as it has been written,”

“After these things, I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David having fallen, and I will rebuild the things having been broken down of it(=its ruins), and I will set it up,”

“‘so that the rest of men may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles (may seek the Lord), on whom my name has been called, upon them.’ says (the) Lord doing these things,”

“have known from long age.”

“Therefore, I judge not to trouble the ones from the Gentiles turning to [the] God,”

“but to write to them to keep away from the pollutions of idols, and fornication, and thing strangled, and [the] blood.”

“For Moses from ancient generations in every city has the ones proclaiming him, in the synagogues on every Sabbath, being read.”

Then it seemed (good) to the apostles and to the elders with all the church to send chosen men among them to Antioch with [the] Paul and Barnabas, (namely) Judas being called Barsabas and Silas (who were) leading men among the brothers.

Having written (this letter) through their hand, “The apostles, and the elders, brothers. To the brothers from Gentiles throughout Antioch and Syria and Cilicia. Greetings.”

“Since we heard that some from us troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, to whom we have given no commission.”

“It seemed (good) to us, having been with one mind(=unanimously), to send chosen men (to) you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,”

(who are) men having given up their minds(=lives) on behalf of the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

“We have sent, [therefore], Judas and Silas, and themselves telling(=they will tell) (you) by word the same things.”

“For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to be imposed on you no more burden than these necessary things,”

“to keep away from idol sacrifices, and blood, and things strangled, and fornication, from which keeping yourselves(=if you keep yourselves)3, you will do well. Farewell.”

So they, having been sent off, went down to Antioch. And having gathered the multitude, they handed over the letter.

And having read, they rejoiced at the exhortation.

And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted and confirmed the brothers by much word.

And having spent (some) time, they were sent off with peace(=greetings) from the brothers to the ones having sent them.

(But it seemed to Silas to remain there.) 4

But Paul and Barnabas were staying in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many other also.

After some days Paul said (to) Barnabas, “Now having returned, let us visit(#hortative) the brothers throughout every city in which we announced the word of the Lord, (and see) how they have(=are).”

And Barnabas was wishing to take with (them) John being called Mark.

But Paul were thinking proper not to take with (them) this one (who) having gone away from them from Pamphylia and having not gone with them for the work.

And there was sharp disagreement, so as for them to be separated from each other, and for Barnabas to sail away to Cyprus, having taken Mark.

And Paul, having chosen Silas, went away, having been commended to the grace of the Lord by the brothers.

And he went through the Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
