1 And there were, according to(#distributive) being the church in Antioch, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who is) forster brother(=close friend) of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 And their offering worship to the Lord and fasting(=as they were offering worship to the Lord and fasting)1, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me [the] Barnabas and Saul for(#purpose) the work that I have called them.”
3 Then having fasted, and having prayed, and having laid the(=their) hands on them, they sent away.
4 So then, having been sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and there they sailed away to Cyprus.
5 And being in Salamis, they were announcing the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had also John (as) assistant.
6 And having passed through all the island as far as Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a Jewish false-prophet, to whom name was Bar-Jesus,
7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This (man), having called Barnabas and Saul, sought to hear the word of God.
8 But Elymas, because his name is translated so, the sorcerer was opposing to them, seeking(=trying) to turn away the proconsul from the faith.
9 But Saul, the one also Paul, having filled (with the) Holy Spirit, having gazed at him,
10 said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, son of (the) devil, enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?”
11 “And now behold, (the) hand of (the) Lord (is) upon you. And you will be blind not seeing the sun until a time(=for a time).” And immediately a dimness and a darkness fell upon him. And going about, he was seeking hand-guide.
12 Then having seen the thing having occurred(#pf.), the proconsul believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
13 And having set sail from Paphos, the ones around(=with) Paul came to Perga of Pamphylia. And John, having departed from them, returned to Jerusalem.
14 And having gone through from [the] Perga, they arrived in Antioch (in) Pisidia. And having gone into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, they sat down.
15 And after the reading of the law and of the prophets, the synagogue rulers sent to them, saying. “Men Brothers, if there is in you any word of exhortation to the people, speak.”
16 And Paul, having risen up, and having signaled with the(=his) hand, said, “Men of Israel and the ones fearing [the] God, listen.”
17 “[The] God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and he exalted the people in the stay(=during their stay) in (the) land of Egypt. And with a high arm he led them out of it.”
18 “And about forty year time(#accusative of duration) he endured them in the desert.”
19 “And having destroyed seven nations in (the) land of Canaan, he gave as an inheritance their land.”
20 “About four hundred fifty years (had been passed). And after these things, he gave judges until (the time of) Samuel (the) prophet.”
21 “After that, they asked a king. And [the] God gave them [the] Saul, son of Kish, a man of (the) tribe of Benjamin, (for) forty years.”
22 “And having removed him, he raised [the] David to them for a king, to whom he also said, having given witness. ‘I found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my wishes.’”
23 “From the seed of this (man), according to promise, [the] God brought to Israel Savior, Jesus.”
24 “John’s having pre-proclaimed(=When John previously proclaimed)2 before face of(=before)3 his coming baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel,”
25 “and as John was completing the course, he was saying, ‘What do you suppose (for) me to be? Not am I. But behold, he comes after me, the sandal of the(=whose) feet I am not worthy to loose.’”
26 “Men, brothers, sons of (the) race of Abraham, and the ones in you fearing [the] God, the word of this salvation was sent forth to us.”
27 “For the ones dwelling in Jerusalem and their rulers, having not known this One and
28 “And having found no cause of death, they asked Pilate (for) him to be killed.”
29 “And when they accomplished all the things having been written about him, having taken down from the tree(=cross), they put in a tomb.”
30 “But [the] God raised him from (the) dead,”
31 “who appeared over(=for) many days(#accusative of duration) to the ones having come up with him from [the] Galilee to Jerusalem, who now are witnesses of him to the people.”
32 “And we preach (to) you the good news of the promise having made to the fathers,”
33 “that [the] God has fulfilled this (promise) to us, the children, by having raised up Jesus, as it has been also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my son, I today has begotten you.’”
34 “And that he raised from (the) dead him (who) no more being about to return to corruption, he said thus(=on this wise), ‘I will give you the holy and faithful things of David.’”
35 “Therefore, he also says in another (Psalm), ‘You will not give your holy One to see corruption.’”
36 “For David, indeed having served in (his) own generation(#dative of time) by the will of [the] God, fell asleep and was placed with his fathers, and saw corruption,”
37 “and he whom [the] God raised did not see corruption.”
38 “Therefore, let it be known to you, men brothers, that forgiveness of sins is announced through this (man) to you.”
39 From all things which you are not able to be justified in(=by) (the) law of Moses, in(=by) this (man), everyone believing is justified.”
40 “Therefore, beware lest the thing having been said in(=by) the prophets [might] comes upon (you),”
41 “See, the despisers, [and] wonder and perish, because I work a work in your days, a work which you will never(#emphatic negative) believe even if anyone explains to you.”
42 And their going out(=As they went out)4, they were asking in the next Sabbath (for) these words to be spoken to them.
43 The assembly’s having been broken up(=When the assemble was broken up)5, many of the Jews and [of] the worshipping proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, was persuading them to remain in the grace of God.
44 And on the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was assembled to hear the word of God.
45 But having seen the crowds, the Jews were filled of jealousy and were speaking against the things being spoken by Paul, blaspheming.
46 And having spoken boldly, [the] Paul and [the] Barnabas said, “It was necessary (that) the word of God firstly to be spoken(=should be spoken) to you. Since you reject it and judge yourselves not worthy of the eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.”
47 “For the Lord has instructed to us like this, ‘I have set you for a light of Gentiles, (for) you to be for salvation unto (the) end of the earth.’”
48 Hearing, the Gentiles were rejoicing and praising the word of the Lord. And as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.
49 The word of the Lord was being carried about through all the country.
50 But the Jews incited the devout and influential women and the leading (men) of the city, and stirred up persecution against [the] Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territory.
51 But having shaken off the dust of the(=their) feet against them, they went to Iconium.
52 And the disciples were being filled of(=with) joy and (the) Holy Spirit.
