1 And at(=around)1 that time, Herod the king laid (his) hands to injure some of the ones from the church.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with a sword(#dative of instrument).
3 And having seen that it was pleasing to the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also - And they were (the) days of [the] Unleavened bread -
4 whom, having seized, he put in prison, having delivered to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.
5 Therefore(=So then), Peter was being kept in the prison. But prayer was earnestly being made by the church to [the] God about him.
6 And when [the] Herod was about to bring him out, at that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, having been bound with two chains. And guards before the door were keeping the prison.
7 And behold, an angel of (the) Lord stood by (him), and a light shone in the building(=prison). And having struck the side of [the] Peter(=Peter on the side), he raised him, saying, “Stand up in haste.” And his chains fell off from the hands.
8 And the angel said (to) him. “Gird, and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he tells him. “Put on your garment, and follow me.”
9 And having gone out, he was following, and he had not known that it is(=was) true the thing happening through the angel, but he was thinking to see a vision.
10 And having gone through the first guard and the second (guard), they came on the iron gate leading to the city, which was automatic(=automatically)2 opened for them. And having gone out, they went forward one street. And immediately the angel left from him.
11 And Peter, having come to himself, said, “Now I know(#pf. as present) truly that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s hand and all the expectation of the Jewish people.”
12 And having realized, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John, also called Mark, where many had gathered and were praying.
13 And his having knocked(=as he knocked)3 the door of the gateway, a maidservant, Rhoda by name, came to answer.
14 And having recognized Peter’s voice, from(#causal) joy, she did not open the gateway, but having run in, she announced (for) Peter to stand(#pf. infinitive) before the gateway.
15 And they said (to) her, “You are out you your mind.” But she was insisting to be so(=it was so). And they were saying, “It is his angel.”
16 But Peter was continuing knocking. And having opened, they saw him and were amazed.
17 And having signaled to them with hand to keep silent, he explained to them how the Lord led him out from the prison. And he said, “Report to James and the brothers these things.” And having gone out, he went to another place.
18 And day’s having become(=when it became day)4, there was no little(=considerable)5 disturbance in(=among) the soldiers (about) what then had become of Peter.
19 And Herod, having searched for him and not finding, having examined the guards, commanded to be executed. And having gone down from Judae to Caesarea, he was staying.
20 And he was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. And with one mind they were coming to him. And having persuaded Blastus, [the one over] the chamberlain of the king, they were asking peace, because of their country to be fed by the royal (country)(=the royal country was providing food to their country.)
21 On the appointed day Herod, having been put on regal robe, having sat on the throne, was addressing to them.
22 And the people were shouting, “Voice of a god and not of a man!”
23 And at once(#ref. of time) an angel of (the) Lord stroke him because he did not give the glory to God. And having eaten by worms, he died.
24 And the word of the Lord was growing and multiplying.
25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having completed the ministry, having taken along with John called Mark.
