(=alt.word) · (added word) · [omit]
And (there was) a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion from(=of) a cohort(=600 men) being called “Italian (cohort).”
(He is) devout and fearing God with all his house, doing many alms to the people, and praying God constantly.
He saw in a vision clearly, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God having come in to him and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
And having gazed at him, and having become terrified, he said, “What is it, Lord.” And he said (to) him, “Your prayers and your alms went up for a memorial before God.”
“And now send men to Joppa. And send for a certain Simon who is also known as Peter.”
“This (man) lodges with one Simon a tanner, to whom house is by (the) sea.”
And as the angel speaking to him went away, having called two among servants and a devout soldier among the ones being attached to him,
and having explained all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
And (in) the next day, their traveling and bringing near(=when they traveled and brought near)1 the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray about (the) sixth hour.
And he became hungry, and wished to eat. And their preparing(=while they prepared)2, and ecstasy came upon him.
And he sees the heaven having been opened and a certain container like a great sheet coming down, and lowering by four corners onto the earth,
in which were all four-legged (animals), reptiles of the earth, and birds of the heaven. 13 And there came a voice to him, “Rise up, Peter! Slay and eat.”
But Peter said, “Surely not, Lord! [Because] I never ate anything common and unclean.”
And a voice again from(=a) second (time) (came) to him. “Do not (call) unclean what God has cleansed,”
And this occurred on three (time)(#accusative of measure), and immediately the container was taken up into [the] heaven.
And as Peter in himself was wondering what the vision that he saw might be(#potential optative), behold, the men having been sent by [the] Cornelius, having asked for the house of [the] Simon(=Simon’s house), stood at the gate,
and having called, (they) were asking if Simon who was known as Peter lodges here.
And Peter’s pondering(=when Peter pondered)3 about the vision, the Spirit said, “Behold, Three men (are) seeking you.”
“but having risen up, go down, and go with them, doubting nothing, because I have sent them.”
And having gone down, Peter said (to) the men. “Behold, I am he whom you seek. What (is) the cause for which you are here?”
And they said, “Cornelius a centurion, a man just and fearing [the] God, and being respected by all the nation of the Jews, was instructed by holy angel to send for(=invite) you to his house and to hear words from you.”
Therefore, having called in them, he lodged (them). (In) the next day, having risen up, he went out with them. And some of brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
And (in) the next day, they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius was awaiting(#periphrastic impf.) them, having called together his relatives and the(=his) close friends.
And when it came to pass for Peter to enter, Cornelius, having met him, and having fallen at the(=his) feet, worshiped.
But Peter raised him saying, “Stand up. I myself also am a man.”
And talking with him, he entered. And he finds many having assembled.
And he was saying to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to associate or approach to another race. And God showed me not to call any man common or unclean.”
“Therefore indeed without argument (for) being sent for(=invited), I came. I inquire therefore, for what reason did you send for me?”
And Cornelius was saying, “From fourth day(=four days ago) until this hour I was praying(# periphrastic imperfect) (at) the ninth (hour) in my house. And behold, a man stood before me in clothes shining,”
“and says, ‘Cornelius, your prayer was heard and your alms were remembered before God.’”
“Therefore, send to Joppa. And call Simon who is also known as Peter. This (man) is lodged in (the) house of Simon a tanner, by (the) sea.”
“At once, therefore, I sent to you, and you did well (for) having arrived(#aor. of simultaneous action). Now, therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all things having been commanded (to) you by the Lord.”
And having opened the(=his) mouth, Peter said, “In truth, I grasp that God is not a respecter of persons(=one who judges by appearances),”
“but in every nation, the one fearing Him and working righteousness is acceptable to Him.”
“(You know) the word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, this is Lord of all.”
“You know the thing(# Semitic) having become(=what has happened) throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John proclaimed.”
“(You know) how God anointed him, Jesus from Nazareth, with (the) Holy Spirit and power(# dative of instrument), who went about doing good and curing all the ones being oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.”
“And we (are) witnesses of all things which he did both in the region of the Jews and Jerusalem, whom indeed they killed having hung him on a tree(=cross).”
“God raised this One on the third day, and gave(=allowed) him to become visible(=to be seen).”
“Not to all the people, but to witnesses having been previously elected by God, to us, who ate with and drank with him after (for) him to have risen again(=he rose again) from (the) dead.”
“And he commanded us to proclaim to the people and to solemnly witness that this is the one having been designated by God, judge of the living and the dead.”
“(About) this (man), all the prophets witness (for) everyone believing in him to receive(#aorist infinitive) forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Yet Peter’s speaking(=While Peter was still speaking)4 these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all the ones hearing the word.
And the believers from(=of) circumcision who accompanied Peter were astounded, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured even upon the Gentiles.
For they were hearing their speaking(=what they were speaking)5 in tongues and (their) magnifying(=what they were magnifying)6 God. Then Peter answered,
“Is anyone able to hinder (for) these not to be baptized (with) water(#accusative of instrument), who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?”
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay (for) some days(#accusative of extent of time).
