1 And the high priest said, “[if(=no meaning)1] Have(=are) these things so?”

2 And he was saying, “Men, brothers, and fathers, hear that the God of glory appeared to our father Abraham being(=when he was) in Mesopotamia before (for) him to dwell in Haran.”

3 “And he said (to) him. ‘Go out of your land and your kindred, and come into the land which I may show to you.’”

4 “Then having gone out of (the) land of Chaldeans, he dwelt in Haran. And from there, after for his father to have died, he caused to emigrate him into this land in which you dwell now.”

5 “And he did not give him an inheritance in it nor (so much as) a foot step. And he promised to give him it for a possession and to his seed after him, child’s not being to him(=while a child was not to him)2.”

6 “And God spoke thus, ‘[that] His seed will be a foreigner in land belonging to another. And they will enslave it, and will oppress for four hundred years(# acc. of duration).’” 7 “And I will judge the nation to which they will serve, God said, and after these things they will come out and will worship me in this place.”

8 “And he gave him a covenant of circumcision. And thus he begot Isaac, and circumcised him (on) the eighth day. And Isaac (begot) Jacob, and Jacob (begot) the twelve patriarchs.”

9 “And the patriarchs, having been jealous (of) Joseph, sold into Egypt. And God was with him.”

10 “And he took out him from all his afflictions, and gave him grace and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. And he appointed him governor over Egypt and all his household.”

11 “But over all Egypt and Canaan came a famine and great affliction. and our fathers did not find foods.”

12 “But having heard (that) grains being(=are) in Egypt, Jacob sent forth our fathers first.”

13 “And at the second (time), Joseph was made known to his brothers. And the family of Joseph became clear to Pharaoh.”

14 “And having sent, Joseph called his father Jacob and all the kindred in seventy five souls(=persons)3.”

15 “And Jacob went down to Egypt. And he and our fathers died.”

16 “And they were removed to Shechem, and were put in the tomb that Abraham bought (for) a price of silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.”

17 “And when(# temporal) the time of the promise which God swore(=made) to Abraham was approaching, the people grew and were multiplied in Egypt.”

18 “Until another king over Egypt arose, who was not knowing(# plpf., impf. meaning) Joseph.”

19 “This (king), having craftily imposed upon our race, oppressed to make the fathers to throw their babies so as not to survive(# inf. final).”

20 “At that time, Moses was born. And he was beautiful (even) to God, who was brought up (for) three months(#acc. of duration) in (his) father’s house.”

21 “And his having been thrown(=when he was thrown)4, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and brought him up to herself for a son.”

22 “And Moses was educated (in) all wisdom of Egyptians, and was powerful in his words and deeds.”

23 “And when (the) time of forty years was fulfilled to him, it came up upon his heart to visit(# helping in Heb. connotation) his brothers the sons of Israel.”

24 “And having seen one being mistreated, he defended. And he took vengeance (for) the one being oppressed, having killed the Egyptian.”

25 “And he was supposing for the brothers to understand that God through his hand would give salvation to them. But they did not understand.”

26 “And (on) the coming day, he appeared (to) them (who were) fighting, and was reconciling them in peace, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other?’”

27 “But the one mistreating the neighbor(=the other) pushed him away, saying, ‘Who appointed you ruler and judge over us?’”

28 “Do you [not(# expecting the answer ‘No’)] want to kill me in the way that you killed yesterday the Egyptian?”

29 “So Moses fled at this word. And he became foreigner in (the) land of Midian, where he begot two sons.”

30 “And forty years’ having been completed(=when forty years were fulfilled)5, an angel appeared to him in the desert of the mount Sinai in flame of fire of thorn bush(=in the flames of a burning bush).”

31 “And having seen, Moses was wondering (at) the sight. And his approaching(=when he approached)6 to ascertain, there was a voice of the Lord.”

32 “‘I (am) the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob.’ But having been trembling, Moses was not daring to ascertain.”

33 “And the Lord said (to) him. ‘Untie the sandal of your feet because the place on which you are standing(#pf. of present sense) is holy land.’”

34Having seen(=Having indeed seen)7, I saw the mistreatment of my people in Egypt. And I heard their groan. And I came down to take out them. And go now, let me send(#aor. subj. hort.) you to Egypt.”

35(It is) this Moses, whom they refused, saying, ‘Who appointed you ruler and judge?’ This man has God sent (to be) both ruler and redeemer with (the) hand of angel having appeared to him in the bush.”

36 “This (man) led forth them, having done(#circumstantial ptc.) wonders and signs in (the) land of Egypt, and in (the) Red Sea, and in the desert (for) forty years.”

37 “This is the Moses having said (to) the sons of Israel, ‘God will raise up a prophet like me for you from your brothers.’”

38 “This is the one having been in the church(=assembly) in the desert with the angel speaking to him in the mount Sinai, and (with) our fathers; who received living words(=oracles) to give to us,”

39 “to whom our fathers were not willing(=would not) to become obedient, but they pushed (him) away and turned in their hearts to Egypt,”

40 “saying to Aaron, ‘Make for us gods who will go before us. (As for) this Moses(# pendent nom.) who led forth us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.’”

41 “And they made a calf in those days, and brought up sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in the works of their hands.”

42 “And God turned away, and handed (them) over to worship the army of heaven, as it has been written in the book of the prophets, ‘House of Israel! Have you [not(# expecting the answer ‘No’)] offered victims and sacrifices to me (for) forty years in the desert?’”

43 “And you took up the tent of Moloch, and the star of the god Rephan, the images which you made to worship them. And I will deport you beyond Babylon.”

44 “The tent of witness was to our fathers in the desert, as the One speaking to Moses directed to make it according to the image which he had seen,”

45 “which also, having received, our fathers brought in with Jesus(=Joshua)8 in the possession of Gentiles whom God drove out from (the) face of our fathers, until the days of David,”

46 “who found(=obtained)9 grace before God, and asked to find(=see) tent for the house of Jacob.”

47 “But Solomon built for him a house.”

48 “But the most High does not dwell in (the house) made by hand, as the prophet says.”

49 “‘The heaven (is) to me a throne. And the earth (is) a footstool of my feet. What kind of house will you build for me?’ The Lord says, ‘Or what (is) place of my rest?’”

50 “Hasn’t my hand made all these things?”

51 “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in hearts(# dat. of respect) and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers (did), so (do) you.”

52 “Which of the prophets haven’t your fathers persecuted? And they killed the ones having foretold concerning the coming of the Righteous One(#messianic title, Is 53:11), of whom you now became betrayers and murderers.”

53 “You who received the law by(#of instrument) directions of angels have not keep (it).”

54 And hearing these things, they were being cut to their hearts and were gnashing the teeth at him.

55 But being full of the Holy Spirit, having gazed into [the] heaven, he saw the glory of God and Jesus standing(#pf. with pres. sense) at (the) right (hand) of God.

56 And he said, “Behold! I see the heavens having been opened and the Son of Man standing(#pf. with pres. sense) at (the) right (hand) of God”

57 And having cried out with a great voice, they closed their ears, and rushed all together at him. 58 And having thrown (him) outside the city, they were stoning (him). And the witnesses took off their garments at the feet of a young (man) being called Saul.

59 And they were stoning Stephen, invoking and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

60 And having put the knees(=having fallen his knees), he cried out with a great voice, “Lord, do not place to them this sin.” And having said this, he fell asleep.
