1 Their speaking(=When they were speaking)1 to the people, the priests and the commandant of the temple and the Sadducees came up to them.

2 Being greatly disturbed because of (for) them to teach(=their teaching)2 the people and to announce(=announcing)3 in Jesus the resurrection from the dead,

3 they laid hands on them and had (them) put in custody till the next day because it was evening already.

4 But many of the ones having heard the word believed, and (the) number of the men became about five thousand.

5 And it came to pass on the next day for their rulers and elders and scribes to gather together in Jerusalem.

6 And Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were from the high priest’s family,

7 having stood them in the middle, they were asking. “By what power or what name did you do this?”

8 “Then Peter, having been filled of(=with) (the) Holy Spirit, said (to) them. ‘Rulers of the people, and elders!’”

9 “If we today are examined on a good work (having done) of(=to) an

10 “Let it be known (to) you all and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth whom you crucified, whom God raised from (the) dead, in this (name), this (man) stands(# perfect as present meaning) before you healthy.”

11 “This is the stone having been despised by you builders (and) having become into (the) head of (the) coner (=cornerstone).”

12 “And the salvation is not in any other. For there is no other name, under heaven, having been given among(=to) men, by which it is necessary for us to be saved(=we must be saved).”

13 And seeing the confidence of Peter and John, and perceiving that they are unlearned and ordinary men, they were marvelling and recognizing them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And seeing the man, (who) having been healed, standing(# present of pf.) with them, they had nothing to say against.

15 And having commanded them to go outside the council, they were discussing with one another,

16 saying, “What may(=shall) we do to these men? Because that an evident sign indeed has happened through them (is) clear to all living in Jerusalem, and we are not able to deny (it).”

17 “But lest it is spreaded more to the people, let us threaten them to speak no longer on(=in) this name to anyone of men.”

18 And having called them, they commanded neither to utter at all nor to teach on(=in) the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John, having answered, said (to) them. “Whether it is right before God to listen (to) you rather than (to) God, judge!”

20 “Because we are not able not to speak(=cannot help speaking) the things which we saw and heard.”

21 And they, having added a treat, let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all (the people) were glorifying God for the thing having happened.

22 For the man was more than forty years old, upon whom this sign of healing had happened.

23 And having been released, they went to (their) own (people), and reported the things which(=what) the high priests and the elders said (to) them.

24 And they, having heard, lifted with one mind voice to God, and said, “Master, You (are) the One having made the heaven and earth and the sea and all things in them,”

25 “the One, through (the) Holy Spirit, by (the) mouth(# gen. of agent) of our father, your servant David, saying, ‘Why have the nations raged and the peoples imagined vain things?’”

26 “The kings of the earth came up and the rulers gathered together against the Lord and his Christ.”

27 “For Herod and Pontius Pilate with nations and peoples of Israel have indeed gathered in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.”

28 “To do the things which(=what) your hand and the will predestined to happen.”

29 “And now, Lord, look upon the things(# acc. of respect) about their threats, and grant to your servants with all boldness to speak your word.”

30 “By you to stretch out(=your stretching out) the hand for healing, make both signs and wonders happen(# present infinitive) through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

31 And their having besought(=when they prayed)4, the place in which they were having been gathered(=were assembled together) was shaken, and they all were filled with(=of) the Holy Spirit, and they were speaking the word of God with boldness.

32 And (the) heart and soul of the multitude of the ones having believed were one. And none (of them) was saying for anything of the belongings to him to be to (his) own(=that anything of his possessions was his own), but all things were to them (in) common(=shared).

33 And (with) great power the apostles were giving the testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.

34 For anyone among them was not needy (person). For as many as owners of lands or houses were (there), selling (them), they were bringing the prices of the things being sold.

35 And they were putting (them) at the feet of the apostles. And it was distributing to each according as anyone has had need(# repeated action in the past).

36 And (there was) Joseph by the apostles being called as(=having given another name) “Barnaba” which is translated “son of consolation”, a Levite, a Cyprus (man) by race.

37 Field’s belonging to him(=as a field was to him)5, having sold (it), he brought the money, and put at the apostles’ feet.
