Then [therefore the] Pilate took [the] Jesus and scourged (him).
And the soldiers, having woven a crown from(=of) thorns, put on his head. And they clothed him (in) a purple robe.
And they were coming to him and were saying, “Hail, [the] King of the Jews!” And they gave blows to him.
And [the] Pilate went out again, and says (to) them, “Behold, I am bringing him out to you, that you might(=may) know that I find no case(=crime) in him.”
So [the] Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And he says (to) them, “Behold the man!”
So when the high priests and attendants saw him, they shouted, saying, “Crucify, crucify!” [The] Pilate says (to) them, “Take him yourselves, and crucify (him), for I do not find any case(=crime) in him.”
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to the law he ought to die, because he made himself (the) Son of God.”
So when [the] Pilate heard this word, he was more afraid.
And he went into the praetorium again, and says (to) Jesus, “Where are you from?” But [the] Jesus gave him no answer.
So [the] Pilate says (to) him, “Do(=Will) you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and I have authority to crucify you?”
Jesus answered, “You were having(=could have)1 no authority against me unless it was having been given(=had been given)2 you from above. Therefore the one having delivered me (to) you has (the) greater sin.”
From this (on), [the] Pilate was seeking to release him. But the Jews shouted, saying, “If you [might] release this (man), you are not a friend of Caesar. Everyone making himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
So the Pilate, having heard these words, brought [the] Jesus out, and sat on (the) judgment seat in a place being called Stone Pavement, but (in) Hebrew, Gabbatha.
And it was the day of Preparation of Passover. It was about sixth hour. And he says (to) the Jews, “Behold your king!”
So those shouted, “Take, take, crucify him.” [The] Pilate says (to) them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The high priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
Then therefore he delivered him to them that he might be crucified. Therefore they took [the] Jesus.
And carrying the cross by himself, he went out to the (place) being called the Place of Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
Where they crucified him, and with him two others, (one) on this side and (one) on that side, and [the] Jesus in the middle.
And [the] Pilate also wrote a title and put (it) on the cross. And it was [having been] written(# periphrastic pluperfect), “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
So many of the Jews read this title, because the place where [the] Jesus was crucified was near the city. And it was [having been] written(# periphrastic pluperfect) in Hebrew, in Latin, (and) in Greek.
So the high priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘the King of the Jews,’ but ‘[that] That (man) said, I am King of the Jews.’”
[The] Pilate answered, “I have written what I have written.”
So the soldiers, when they crucified [the] Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, a part (for) each soldier; also his tunic. And the tunic was seamless, woven from the top in one piece.
So they said (to) one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “They divided my garments (among) themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot(=lots).” So the soldiers did these things.
And by the cross of Jesus were standing(# pluperfect for imperfect) his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the (wife) of Clopas, and Mary the Magdalene.
So Jesus, having seen the(=his) mother and the disciple standing by whom he was loving, says (to) the(=his) mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
Then he says (to) the disciple, “Behold your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own (home).
After this [the] Jesus, having known that now all things have been accomplished, so that the Scripture would(=will) be fulfilled, says, “I thirst.”
There was standing a jar full of vinegar. So having put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, they brought(=held) (it) to his mouth.
So when he received the vinegar, Jesus said, “It has been accomplished.” And having bowed the(=his) head, he gave up the(=his) spirit.
So since it was the day of Preparation, so that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the Sabbath, for the day of that Sabbath was great(=special day), the Jews asked [the] Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away.
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other having been crucified with him.
And having come to [the] Jesus, when they saw him having already died, they did not break his legs.
But one of the soldiers pierced his side (with) a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
And the one having seen has testified, and his testimony is true, and that one knows that he tells the truth, so that you also may believe.
For these things happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “A bone of him will not be broken.”
And another Scripture says again, “They will look on (him) whom they pierced.”
And after these things, Joseph from(=of) Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, having been hidden because of [the] fear of the Jews, asked [the] Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate allowed. Therefore he came and took his body away.
And Nicodemus also, the one having come to him of(=by) night the first(=at first), came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
So they took the body of Jesus and bound it (in) strip of linen with the spices, as it is (to) the Jews (the) custom to bury(=for burial).
And there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one was having been laid(=had yet been laid)3.
So because of the day of the Preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was near, they laid [the] Jesus there.
