Having said these things, Jesus went out with his disciples across the Kidron valley, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
And Judas, who betraying him, also was knowing(# pluperfect for imperfect) the place, because Jesus often met there with his disciples.
So [the] Judas, having taken the band (of soldiers) and officials from the high priests and Pharisees, comes there with torches and lanterns and weapons.
So Jesus, having known(=knowing)1 all things coming upon him(=that was going to happen to him), went out and says (to) them, “Whom are you looking for?”
They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” He says (to) them, “I am (he).” And Judas, the one betraying him, also was standing(# pluperfect for imperfect) with them.
So(=now) when he told them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
So he asked them again, “Whom are you looking for?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
Jesus answered, “I told you that I am (he). So if you are looking for me, let these (men) go,”
that the word which he said might be fulfilled: “[that] I have not lost none(=any) of those whom you have given(=gave)2 me.”
So Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And name, Malcus, was to the slave(=the slave’s name was Malcus).
So Jesus said (to) Peter, “Put the(=your) sword into the sheath. Should(=Shall) I not drink it, the cup which the Father has given me?”
So the band (of soldiers) and the leader of a thousand(=captain) and the officials of the Jews arrested [the] Jesus and bound him.
And first they led (him) to Annas, for he was farther-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest of that year.
And Caiaphas was the one having advised the Jews that it is(=would be) better (to have) one man die for the people.
And Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. And that disciple was known to the high priest and entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.
And Peter was standing(# pluperfect for imperfect) outside at the door. So the other disciple, (who was) known of(=to) the high priest, went out and spoke to portress, and brought [the] Peter in.
So the maidservant, the portress, says (to) [the] Peter, “You also are (one) of this man’s disciples, aren’t you?” That one says, “I am not.”
And the slaves and the officials had stood, having made a fire, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves. And [the] Peter also was with them, standing(# perfect as present) and warming himself.
So the high priest asked [the] Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.
Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I always taught in synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and I have said nothing in secret.”
“Why do you ask me? Ask the ones having heard what I said (to) them. Behold, these know what I said.”
And his having said(=when he said)3 these things, one of the officials standing(# perfect as present) by gave a blow to [the] Jesus, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
Jesus answered him, “If I spoke wrongly, testify about(=to) the wrong, but if (I spoke) rightly, why do you strike me?”
So [the] Annas sent him [having been] bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
And Simon Peter was standing(# perfect as present) and warming himself. So they said (to) him, “You also are (one) of his disciples, aren’t you?” That one denied and said, “I am not.”
One of the slaves of the high priest, being a relative of (the man) whose ear Peter cut off, says, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?”
So again Peter denied, and immediately a cock crowed.
So they lead [the] Jesus from [the] Caiaphas to the praetoruim(=governor’s official residence). And it was early (in the morning). And they did not enter into the praetorium, lest they might be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover.
So [the] Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring (against) this man?”
They answered and said (to) him, “If this man were not doing evil(=were not an evildoer)4, we would not have delivered(# unreal condition) him to you.”
So [the] Pilate said (to) them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your law.” The Jews said (to) him, “It is not lawful (for) us to put no one(=anyone) to death,”
that Jesus’s word might be fulfilled which he said, indicating by what death he should die.
So [the] Pilate went again into the praetorium and called [the] Jesus and said (to) him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
Jesus answered, “Do you say this from yourself(=on your own), or did others say (to) you about me?”
[The] Pilate answered, “Am [not(# expecting the answer ‘No’)] I a Jew? Your nation and the high priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from(=of) this world. If my kingdom was from(=of) this world, my attendants would fight(# unreal condition), so that I should not be delivered to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from here.”
So [the] Pilate said (to) him, “You are a king, then!” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. I was born for this, and for this I have come into the world, that I might testify (to) the truth. Everyone being from(=of) the truth hears my voice.”
[The] Pilate says (to) him, “What is truth?” And having said this, he went out again to the Jews. And he says (to) them, “I find no case(=crime) in him.”
“And there is a custom to you(=you have a custom) that I should release one (man) (to) you at the Passover. Do you want that I [might] release (to) you the king of the Jews?”
So they cried again, saying, “Not this (man), but [the] Barabbas!” And [the] Barabbas was a bandit.
