1 “I have spoken these things (to) you so that you might not be offended(=may not fall away).”
2 “They will make(=put) you out of the synagogues. But a time comes that everyone(=whoever) killing you, might(=will) think to offer(=he is offering) a service to God.”
3 “And they will do these things because they did not know the Father nor me.”
4 “But I have spoken these things to you, that when the their time [might] comes you may remember [them] that I told you. I did not tell you these things from (the) beginning, because I was with you.”
5 “And now I am going to the One having sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?”
6 “But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.”
7 “But I tell you the truth. It is for your advantage that I [might] go away, for if I might(=do) not go away, the Counselor might(=will) not come (to) you. But if I [might] go, I will sent him to you.”
8 “And that One, having come, will convict the world about(=of) sin, and [about] righteousness and [about] judgment.”
9 “About sin, because they do not believe in me.”
10 “And about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you see(=will see)1 me no longer.”
11 “And about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”
12 “I still have many things to say (to) you, but you are not able to bear (them) now.”
13 “But when that One, the Spirit of truth, [might] comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak from himself(=on his own), but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare (to) you the coming things(=the things to come).”
14 “That One will glorify me, because he will take from me(=what is mine) and will declare (it) to you.”
15 “All things that the Father has is(=are) mine. Therefore I said that he receives from me(=what is mine) and will declare (it) to you.”
16 “A little while, and you see(=will see)2 me no longer, and again a little while, and you will see me.
17 So (some) of his disciples said (to) one another, “What is this that he says (to) us, ‘A little while, and you do not see(=will not see)3 me, and again a little while, and you will see me?’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father?’”
18 So they were saying, “What is this that he says ‘the(=a) little while?’ We do not know what he speaks(=is saying).”
19 Jesus knew that they were wanting(=wanted) to ask him, and he said (to) them, “Are you asking one another about this, what I said, ‘A little while, and you do not see(=will not see)4 me, and again a little while, and you will see me?’”
20 “Truly, truly, I say (to) you that you will weep and [will] mourn, but the world will rejoice. You will be grieved(=sorrowful), but your grief(=sorrow) will become(=turn) into joy.”
21 “When a woman [may] gives birth (to a child), she has grief(=pain), because her time has come; but when she [might] beget(=has given birth to the child), she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a man(=child) was(=is) born into the world.”
22 “And therefore you now have grief indeed, but again I will see you, and your heart will rejoice, and no one takes your joy from you.”
23 “And in that day you will not ask nothing(=anything) (of) me. Truly, truly, I say (to) you, whatever you [might] ask the Father in my name, he will give you.”
24 “Until now you did not ask nothing(=anything) in my name, ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be having been filled(=full).”
25 “I have spoken (to) you these things in simile(=figures). A time comes when I will no longer speak (to) you in simile(=figures), but I will declare (to) you plainly about the Father.”
26 “In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say (to) you that I will ask the Father about you(=on your behalf).”
27 “For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from [the] God.”
28 “I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again I am leaving the world and am going to the Father.”
29 His disciples say, “Behold, now you are speaking plainly, and you say no simile(=figures).”
30 “Now we know that you know all things and do not have need(=need) that anyone ask you(=to have anyone ask you questions). In(=By) this we believe that you came from God.”
31 Jesus answered them, “Now do you believe?”
32 “Behold, a time is coming and has come that you might(=will) be scattered, each to his own (home) and you might(=will) leave me alone. And I am not alone, because the Father is with me.”
33 “I have spoken these things to you, that you may have peace in me. In the world you have(=will have)5 tribulation, but have courage! I have overcome the world.”
