1 After these things [the] Jesus went away across the sea of Galilee, (which is the sea) of Tiberias.
2 And a large crowd was following him, because they were seeing(=saw) the signs that he was making on the ailing ones.
3 And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.
4 And the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.
5 So [the] Jesus, having lifted up the(=his) eyes and seeing that a large crowd is(=was) coming toward him, says (to) Philip, “Where might(=shall) we buy bread so that these (people) may eat?”
6 And he was saying this, testing(=to test) him, for he himself was knowing(# pluperfect as imperfect) what he was about to do.
7 [The] Philip answered him, “Breads of two hundred denarii(=Two hundred denarii worth of bread) is not enough for them, that each one might(=may) get a little.”
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother says (to) him,
9 “Here is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what is(=are) these things among so many (people)?”
10 [The] Jesus said, “Make the men to recline(=sit down).” And there was much grass in the place. So the men reclined(=sat down), (in) number(# accusative of respect) about five thousand.
11 So [the] Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, he distributed to the ones lying(=sitting) down, and likewise of the fish, as much as they were wanting(=wanted).
12 And when they were filled, he says (to) his disciples, “Gather up the fragments being left over, so that anything may not be lost.
13 So they gathered, and they filled twelve baskets of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were left over (by) the ones having eaten.
14 So the men, having seen (the) sign that he did, were saying, “[that] This is truly the prophet coming into the world.”
15 So Jesus, having known that they are(=were) about to come and [to] seize him so that they might(=may) make a king, withdrew again into the mountain (by) himself alone.
16 And when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.
17 And having gotten into a boat, they were going across the sea into Capernaum. And darkness already had come(=it was not dark), and [the] Jesus had not yet come to them.
18 And the sea was being roused(=rose), a great wind’s blowing(=because a strong wind was blowing)1.
19 So having rowed about twenty five or thirty stadia(=three or four miles), they see(=saw) [the] Jesus walking on the sea and becoming(=coming) near the boat. And they feared.
20 And he says (to) them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
21 So they wanted to take him into the boat. And immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
22 On the next day, the crowd having stood across the sea saw that there was no other boat except one, and that [the] Jesus did not come with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples went away alone.
23 Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they ate the bread, the Lord’s having given thanks(=after the Lord had given thanks)2.
24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus is(=was) not there, nor his disciples, they got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking [the] Jesus.
25 And having found him across the sea, they said (to) him, “Rabbi, when did you come(# perfect as aorist) here?”
26 [The] Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say (to) you, you seek me not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and was satisfied.”
27 “Work not (for) the perishing(=perishable) food, but for the food enduring to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, for the God Father sealed(=set his seal) (on) this (One).”
28 So they said (to) him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said (to) them, “This is the work of God, that you [may] believe in him whom the One sent.”
30 So they said (to) him, “So what sign do you do, that we might(=may) see and [might] believe you? What do you work?”
31 “Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is having been written(=was written)3, ‘He gave them bread from [the] heaven to eat.’”
32 So [the] Jesus said (to) them, “Truly, truly, I say (to) you, Moses did not give you the bread from [the] heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from [the] heaven.”
33 “For the bread of God is the thing coming down from [the] heaven and giving life to the world.”
34 So they said (to) him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
35 [The] Jesus said (to) them, “I am the bread of life. The one coming to me might(=shall) never hunger. And the one believing in me will never thirst.”
36 “But I told you that you have seen me, and you do not believe.”
37 “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one coming to me I might(=will) never cast out.”
38 “For I have come down from [the] heaven so that I may do not my will but the will of the One having sent me.”
39 “And this is the will of the One having sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but should raise it up at the last day.”
40 “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone seeing the Son and believing in him may have eternal life; and I will raise him up in the last day.”
41 So the Jews were grumbling about him, because he said, “I am the bread having come down from [the] heaven.”
42 And they were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, of whom we know the father and the mother? How does he say now, ‘[that] I have come down from [the] heaven?’”
43 Jesus answered and said (to) them, “Do not grumble with another(=among yourselves).”
44 “No one is able to come to me unless the Father having sent me [might] draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.”
45 “It is having been written(=is written)4 in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught (by) God.’ Everyone having heard [from the Father] and learning (from the Father) comes to me.”
46 “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the one being from [the] God, this one has seen the Father.”
47 “Truly, truly, I say (to) you, the one believing has eternal life.”
48 “I am the bread of life.”
49 “Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.”
50 “This is the bread coming down from [the] heaven, that anyone might(=may) eat from(=of) it and might(=may) not die.”
51 “I am the living bread having come down from [the] heaven. If anyone [might] eats from(=of) this bread, he will live to the age(=forever). And the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
52 So the Jews were arguing with one another, saying, “How can this (man) [to] give us the(=his) flesh to eat?”
53 So [the] Jesus said (to) them, “Truly, truly, I say (to) you, unless you [might] eat the flesh of the Son of Man and [might] drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves.”
54 “The one eating my flesh and drinking my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up (on) the last day.
55 “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.”
56 “The one eating my flesh and drinking my blood remains in me, and I in him.”
57 “As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, [and] that one eating me will live because of me.”
58 “This is the bread having come down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died. The one eating this bread will live into the age(=forever).”
59 He said these things in a synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.
60 So many from(=of) his disciples, having heard, said, “This word is hard; who is able to hear it?”
61 And [the] Jesus, having known in himself that his disciples are grumbling about this, said (to) them, “Does this offend you?”
62 “So what if you may(=were to) see the Son of Man ascending where he was [the] before?”
63 “The spirit is the thing making alive, the flesh profits nothing. The sayings that I have spoken (to) you is(=are) spirit and is(=are) life.”
64 “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For [the] Jesus was knowing(# pluperfect as imperfect) from (the) beginning who are(=were) the ones not believing and who is(=was) the one betraying(# future participle) him.
65 And he was saying, “Therefore I have told you that no one is able to come to me unless it may be having been granted to him from(=by) the Father.”
66 From(=After) this many of his disciples went away into the behind(=back) and no longer were going about with him.
67 So [the] Jesus said (to) the twelve, “Do [not(# expecting the answer ‘No’)] you also wish to go?”
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have (the) sayings of eternal life.”
69 “And we have believed and have known that you are the Holy One of God.”
70 [The] Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the twelve? And one of you are a devil.”
71 And he was speaking (of) Judas the (son) of Simon Iscariot, for this one, one of the twelve, was about to betray him.
