1 And having arisen, all the multitude of them led him to [the] Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this (man) misleading our nation and opposing to give tribute to Caesar, and saying himself to be Christ a King.”
3 And [the] Pilate asked him, saying, “Are you the king of the Jews?” And he, having answered, was saying to him, “You say (it).”
4 And [the] Pilate said to the high priests and the crowds, “I find no fault in this man.”
5 But they were insisting, saying, “[that] He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all [the] Judea, having begun from Galilee to here.”
6 And Pilate, having heard, asked if the man is(=was) a Galilean
7 And having learned that he is(=was) from(=under) Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, being(=who was) also himself in Jerusalem in these days(=at that time).
8 And [the] Herod, having seen [the] Jesus, was very glad, because for a long time he was wishing(=had been wanting)1 to see him because of to hear(=because he had heard) about him, and he was hoping to see some sign being done by him.
9 And he was asking him in many words, but he answered nothing to him.
10 And the high priests and the scribes were standing by(# pluperfect for imperfect), vehemently accusing him.
11 And [the] Herod, having ridiculed him with his soldiers, [and] having mocked, (and) having dressed (him) in gorgeous robe, sent him back to Pilate.
12 And [the] Herod and [the] Pilate became friends with each other in(=on) the(=that) very day, for they previously were being(=had been) in(=at) enmity with themselves(=each other).
13 And Pilate, having called together the high priests and the rulers and the people,
14 said (to) them, “You brought me this man as (the one) perverting the people. And
15 “And neither (did) Herod, for he sent him back to us. And behold, nothing worthy(=deserving) of death is having been done(=has been done)2 (by) him.”
16 “Therefore, having flogged him, I will release (him).”
17 (And it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast.) 3
18 But they all cried out together, saying, “Away (with) this man, and release to us [the] Barabbas!”
19 who was had been thrown(=had been thrown) in(=into) [the] prison because of a certain insurrection having happened in the city, and (for) murder.
20 And again [the] Pilate spoke to them, wishing to release [the] Jesus.
21 But they were shouting, saying, “Crucify, crucify him!”
22 But he said (to) them (the) third time, “Why, what evil has this (man) done? I found no crime of(=deserving) death in him. Therefore, having flogged him, I will release (him).”
23 But they were insisting with loud voices, demanding him to be crucified(=that he be crucified). And their voices were prevailing.
24 And Pilate decided their request to be done(=that their request should be granted).
25 And he released the one having been thrown into prison, whom they asked, because of insurrection and murder, but he delivered [the] Jesus to their will.
26 And as they led him away, having seized one Simon, a Cyrene, (who was) coming from the country, they put the cross on him to carry (it) behind [the] Jesus.
27 And (there) followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who were mourning and [were] lamenting him.
28 And having turned to them, Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.”
29 “For behold, the days are coming in which(=when) they will say, ‘Blessed (are) the barren, [and] the wombs that never bore, and the breast that never nursed!’”
30 “Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’”
31 “For if they were doing(=do) these things in (the) green tree(=when the wood is green), what might(=will) happen in the dry(=when it is dry)?”
32 And two other criminals also were leading away with him to be executed.
33 And when they came on(=to) the place being called (the) Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one(# relative pronoun as demonstrative) from(=on) (his) right and the other(# relative pronoun as demonstrative) on (his) left.
34 And [the] Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know(# prefect as present) what they are doing.” And dividing his garments, they cast lots.
35 And the people were standing by(# pluperfect for imperfect) watching. And the rulers were sneering, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if this man is the Christ of God, the Chosen One!”
36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming up (and) offering him vinegar,
37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself.”
38 And there was also an inscription over him, “THIS (IS) THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 And one of the criminals having been hanged was blaspheming him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
40 And having answered, the other, rebuking him, was saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are in(=under) the same sentence?”
41 “And we indeed (are punished) justly, for we are receiving (the things) worthy(=due reward) of what we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when you [might] come into your kingdom.”
43 And he said (to) him, “Truly I say (to) you, Today you will be with me in [the] paradise.”
44 And it was now about (the) sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until (the) ninth hour.
45 The sun’s having been failed(=While the sun’s light failed)4, the curtain of the temple was torn in the middle(=in two).
46 And having cried (with) a loud voice, [the] Jesus said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he breathed his last.
47 And the centurion, having seen the thing having happened, glorified [the] God, saying, “Certainly this man was righteous!”
48 And all the crowds having gathered to this sight, having seen the things having happened, were returning (home) beating the(=their) breasts.
49 And all the ones known to him and the women following him from [the] Galilee were standing(# pluperfect for imperfect) at a distance, seeing these things.
50 And behold, (there was) a man, Joseph by name, a council member, being a good and righteous man.
51 This (man) was not having agreed(=had not agreed)5 to their decision and action. (He came) from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting the kingdom of God.
52 This (man), having gone to [the] Pilate, asked for Jesus’ body.
53 And having taken down, he wrapped it in linen, and placed him in tomb hewn out of the rock, where no one was being laid(=had been laid)6 yet.
54 And it was day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55 And having followed after, the women who were having come(=had come)7 with him from Galilee, saw the tomb and how his body was laid.
56 And having returned, (the women) prepared spices and ointments. And (on) the Sabbath, they indeed rested according to the commandment.
