1 And (on) the first (day) of the Sabbaths(=week), (at) early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking spices which they prepared.
2 And they found the stone having been rolled away from the tomb.
3 And having entered, they did not found the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it was in the them to be perplexed(=while they were perplexed)1 about this, (that) [and] behold, two men stood by them in dazzling cloths.
5 And their having been terrified and bending(=as the women were terrified and bowed)2 the(=their) faces to the ground, they said (to) them, “Why do you seek the living one with the dead?”
6 “He is not here, but is risen! Remember how he told you, being(=while he was) still in [the] Galilee,”
7 “saying, ‘It is necessary (for) the Son of Man to be delivered into (the) hands of sinners and to be crucified and (on) the third day to rise again.’”
8 And they remembered his words.
9 And having returned from the tomb, they announced all these things to the eleven and all the rest.
10 And they were(=it was) Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the (mother) of James, and the other (women) with them, who was telling these things to the apostles.
11 And these sayings seemed before(=to) them like nonsense, and they were not believing them.
12 And [the] Peter, having risen, ran on(=to) the tomb. And having stooped down, he sees(=saw) the linen clothes (lying) by themselves. And he went away, wandering to himself the thing having happened(=what had happened).
13 And behold, on the same day two of them were going(# periphrastic imperfect) to a village being away sixty stadia(=about seven miles) from Jerusalem, to which name (was) Emmaus.
14 And they were talking with each other about all these things having happened.
15 And it happened, in the them to talk and discuss(=while they were talking and discussing), [and] (that) Jesus himself, having come near, was going with them.
16 But their eyes were being restrained not to recognize him(=were kept from recognizing him).
17 And he said (to) them, “What (are) these words that you exchange with one another, walking along?” And they stood still, sad-faced(=and looked sad).
18 And having answered, one (of them), Cleopas (by) name, said (to) him, “Are you only visitor (to) Jerusalem [and] (who) did(=does) not know the things having happened in it in these days?”
19 And he said (to) them, “What things?” And they said (to) him, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth who was a prophet, mighty man in deed and word before [the] God and all the people,”
20 “and how both the high priests and our rulers delivered him to (the) sentence of death, and crucified him.”
21 “But we were hoping that he is(=was) the one being about to redeem [the] Israel. But also with all these things(=in addition), this day leads(=is) (the) third day since these things happened.”
22 “But also some women among us amazed us, having been at the tomb early in the morning,”
23 “and having not found his body, they came, saying, to have seen a vision of angels who say(=said) him to live(=that he was alive).”
24 “And some of the ones with us went to the tomb, and they found (it) just as the women also said, but they did not see him.”
25 And he said (to) them, “O foolish men, and slow in(=of) heart to believe on(=in) all things that the prophets have spoken!”
26 “Was it not necessary (for) the Christ to suffer these things and [to] enter to his glory?”
27 And having begun from(=with) Moses and [from] all the prophets, he explained (to) them the things about himself in all the Scriptures.
28 And they came near to the village to which they were going. And he pretended to be going farther.
29 And they urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day has declined now.” And he went in to stay with them.
30 And it happened, in the him to recline(=as he sat at the table)3 with them, that he, having taken the bread, blessed and having broken(=broke) (it), (and) he was giving (it to) them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he became invisible(=disappeared) from them(=their sight).
32 And they said (to) each other, “Was(=Were) not our heart(=hearts) burning in(=within) us while he was talking (with) us on the road, while he was opening the Scriptures to us?”
33 And having gotten up the(=that) same hour, they returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven and the ones with them having gathered together,
34 saying, “[that] the Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared (to) Simon!”
35 And they were telling the things on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.
36 And their saying(=as they were saying)4 these things, he himself stood in the midst of them, and say(=said) to them, “Peace (be with) you.”
37 And having been startled and [having been] terrified, they were thinking to see(=that they were seeing) a spirit.
38 And he said (to) them, “Why are you [having been] troubled? And why do doubts arise in your heart?”
39 “See my hands and my feet, that I am myself(=it is I myself). Touch me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see me having(=that I have).”
40 And having said this thing, he showed them the(=his) hands and feet.
41 And their disbelieving still and marvelling(=while they still did not believe and marveled)5 from(=for) the joy, he said (to) them, “Have you here anything eatable(=to eat)?”
42 And they gave him a piece of broiled fish.
43 And having taken (it), he ate before them.
44 And he said to them, “These (are) my words that I spoke to you, being(=while I was) still with you, that it is necessary (for) all things having been written about me in the law of Moses and the Prophets and Psalms to be fulfilled.”
45 Then he opened their mind(=minds) the to understand(=to understand)6 the Scriptures.
46 and he said (to) them, “[that] Thus it has been written the Christ to suffer and to rise again(=that the Christ will suffer and rise) from (the) dead (on) the third day,”
47 “and repentance for (the) forgiveness of sins to be proclaimed(=that repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed) on(=in) his name to all [the] nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”
48 “You (are) witnesses of these things.”
49 “And behold, I am going to send(# present for immediate future) the promise of my Father upon you, and you sit(=stay) in the city until you might been clothed (with) power from on high.”
50 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.
51 And it happened, in the him to bless(=while he was blessing)7 them, (that) he separated from them and was being taken up into [the] heaven.
52 And they, having worshiped him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
53 And they were continually in the temple, blessing(=praising) God.
