And there were all the tax collectors and the sinners drawing near to him to listen to him.

And the Pharisees and the scribes were complaining, saying, “[that] This (man) welcomes sinners and eats (with) them.”

And he said (to) them this parable, saying,

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep and having lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the one having been lost until he [might] finds it?”

“And having found (it), he put (it) on his shoulders, rejoicing,”

“and having come into the house, he calls together the(=his) friends and the(=his) neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep having been lost.’”

“I say (to) you that likewise there will be (more) joy in [the] heaven over one sinner repenting(=who repents) than over ninety-nine righteous (persons) who have no need of repentance.”

“Or what woman having ten Drachma(=silver coins), if she [might] loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek carefully until she [might] finds (it)?”

“And having found (it), she calls together the(=her) friends and (her) neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I lost.’”

“So I say (to) you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”

And he said, “A certain man was having(=had) two sons.”

“And the younger of them said (to) the(=his) father, ‘Father, give me the portion of the property falling upon (me).’ And he divided the living(=estate) to them.”

“And not many days after, having gathered all things, the younger son went abroad to a distant country, and there he wasted his property (with) living prodigally.”

“And his having spent(=when he spent)1 all things, there came severe famine throughout that country, and he began to be in want.”

“And going, he joined to one of the citizens of that country. And he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.”

“And he was longing(=longed) to fill his stomach from(=with) the pods that the pigs were eating, and no one gave (anything) to him.”

“But having come to himself, he was saying, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread to spare, and I perish here with hunger!’”

“Having arisen, I will go to my father and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against [the] heaven and before you.’”

“I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.”

“And having arisen, he went to his own father. But yet his being far away(=while he was still a long way off)2, his father saw him and was moved(=had compassion). And having run, he fell on his neck and kissed him.”

“And the son said (to) him, ‘Father, I have sinned against [the] heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’”

“And the father said (to) his slaves, ‘Quickly, bring out the best robe and put it on him. And give a ring to(=on) his hand and sandals to(=on) the feet.’”

“And bring the fatted calf and kill (it), and having eaten(=let us eat), (and) let us make merry.”

“for this my son was dead and was(=is) alive again; he was [having been] lost and was(=is) found.” And they began to make merry.

“But his older son was in a(=the) field. And as he, coming, drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.”

“And having called one of the boys(=servants), he was asking what these things might be(=meant)3.”

“And he said (to) him, ‘[that] Your brother has come, and your father killed the fatted calf, for he has received him being in health.”

“And he was angry and did not want to enter. And his father, having come out, was pleading (with) him.”

“And he, having answered, said (to) the(=his) father, ‘Behold, these many years I works(=have served) you and I never disobeyed your command. And you never gave me a goat, that I might make merry with my friends.’”

“But when this son of yours having devoured your life(=estate) with prostitutes came, you killed (for) him the fatted calf.”

“And he said (to) him, ‘Child, you are always with me, and all of my things is(=are) yours.”

“And it was right to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead and has come to life(=is alive), and (he was) [having been] lost and was(=is) found.”
