When he finished all his sayings in the ears of the people(=in the hearing of the people)1, he entered [into] Capernaum.
And a centurion’s slave having(=being) sick was about to die, who was dear to him.
And having heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him that he, having come, might heal his slave.
And they, having come to [the] Jesus, were beseeching him earnestly, saying, “[that] He is worthy for whom you will(=should) do this.”
“For he loves our nation, and he built the synagogue for us.”
And [the] Jesus was going with them. And his not being far(=when he was not far)2 from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you might come(=to have you come) under my roof.”
“Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come (to) you. But say (in) a word, and let my servant be healed(=my servant will be healed)3.”
“For I also am a man being set under authority, having soldiers under myself, and I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does.”
And having heard these (words), [the] Jesus marveled (at) him, and having turned to the crowd following him, said, “I say (to) you, I have not found such (great) faith in [the] Israel.”
And having returned to the house, the ones having been sent found the slave being well.
And it happened, in(=on) the next (time), that he went into a city being called Nain. And his disciples and a great crowd were going with him.
And as he came near to the gate of the city, [and] behold, a dead (man) was being carried out, an only son to(=of) his mother, and this (mother) was a widow, and a large crowd of the city was with her.
And having seen her, the Lord was moved(=had compassion) on her and said (to) her, “Don’t cry.”
And having approached, he touched the coffin. And the carrying ones stood. And he said, “Young man, I say (to) you, arise!”
And the dead man sat up and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.
And fear took (them) all. And they were glorifying [the] God, saying “[that] A great prophet has been raised among us,” and “[that the] God has visited his people.”
And this word about him spread in all [the] Judea and all the surrounding country.
And his(=John’s) disciples reported to John about all these things. And John, having called [certain] two of his disciples,
sent to the Lord, saying(=to ask), “Are you the One coming(=to come)4, or may(=shall) we expect another?”
And the men, having come to him, said, “John the Baptist sent us (to) you saying(=to ask), ‘Are you the One coming(=to come)5, or may(=shall) we expect another?’”
In that hour he cured many from(=of) diseases and plagues and evil spirits. And to many blind (men) he gave to see(=sight).
And having answered, he said (to) them, “Having gone, report to John what you have seen and heard. The blind see(=receive sight), the lame walk, lepers are being cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor are being evangelized(=the gospel is preached to the poor).”
“And blessed is whoever might not stumble in(=at) me.”
And John’s messengers’ having gone away(=when John’s messengers had gone)6, he began to say to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed being shaken by (the) wind?”
“But(=If not) what did you go out to see? A man having been clothed in soft clothes? Behold, the ones (being clothed) in gorgeous clothing and being in luxury are in [the] king’s courts.”
“But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say (to) you, and more (than) a prophet.”
“This is he about whom it has been written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’”
“I say (to) you, ‘In(=among) (those) born of women there is no one greater (than) John, but the one (who is) least in the kingdom of God is greater (than) he.’”
And all the people having heard and the tax collectors justified [the] God, having been baptized (with) the baptism of John.
But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel(=purpose) of God for themselves, having not been baptized by him.
“To what, then, shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?”
“They are like children sitting in (the) marketplace and calling to one another, who says, ‘We piped to you, and you did not dance. We wailed, and you did not cry.’”
“For John the Baptist has come, not eating bread nor drinking wine. And you say, ‘He has a demon.’”
“The Son of Man has come, eating and drinking. And you say, ‘Behold, a glutton [man] and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners!’”
“And(=But) [the] wisdom was(=is) justified by all her children.”
And one of the Pharisees was asking that(=if) he could eat with him. And having gone into the Pharisee’s house, he reclined (at table).
And behold, a woman who was a sinner in the city, [and] having learned that he reclines(=was eating) at the Pharisee’s house, having brought an alabaster jar of perfumed ointment,
having stood behind (him) at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet (with) (her) tears, and was wiping (them) with the hairs of her head, and was kissing his feet, and was anointing (with) the ointment.
And having seen, the Pharisee having invited him said in(=to) himself, saying, “If this (man) were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of the woman (this is) who is touching him for she is a sinner.”
And [the] Jesus, having answered, said (to) him, “Simon, I have something to say (to) you.” And he says, “Teacher, tell (me).”
“There were two debtors to a certain creditor. One was owing five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.”
“Their having not(thing) to pay(=When they had nothing to pay)7, he forgave (them) both. ‘Now which of them will love him more?’”
Having answered, Simon said, “I suppose, [that] to whom he forgave more.” And he said (to) him, “You have judged rightly.”
And having turned to the woman, he was saying to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house, you did not give any water to me on(=for) (my) feet. But this woman wetted my feet (with her) tears, and wiped (them with) her hairs.”
“You did not give a kiss to me, but this (woman), from (the time) that I entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet.”
“You did not anoint my head (with) oil, but this (woman) anointed my feet (with) ointment.”
“For the sake of this(=For this reason), I say (to) you, her many sins have been forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.”
And he said (to) her, “Your sins have been forgiven.”
And the ones reclining with (him) began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
And he said (to) the woman, “Your faith has saved you, go in peace.”
