1 And Jesus, full of (the) Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was being led in(=by) the Spirit in the wilderness,
2 (for) forty days being tempted by the devil. And he did not ate nothing(=anything) in those days, and their having been ended(=when they were ended)1, he was hungry.
3 And the devil said (to) him, “If you are (the) Son of God, tell this stone that it might become(=be made) bread.”
4 And [the] Jesus answered [to] him, “It has been written, ‘[that the] man shall not live on(=by) bread alone.’”
5 And having led him up, he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,
6 and the devil said (to) him, “I will give you all this authority and their glory, because it has been delivered to me and I give it to whom I (may) want,”
7 “so if you [might] worship [before] me, everything will be yours.”
8 And [the] Jesus, having answered, said (to) him, “It has been written, ‘You shall worship (the) Lord your God and you shall serve him only.’”
9 And he led him to Jerusalem and set (him) on the pinnacle of the temple, and said (to) him, “If you are (the) Son of God, throw yourself down from here,”
10 “for it has been written, ‘[that] he will command his angels about you, [the] to preserve you,’”
11 “and that they will lift you up on(=in) (their) hands, lest you [might] strike your foot against a stone.”
12 And having answered, [the] Jesus said (to) him, “[that] It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt (the) Lord your God.”
13 And having ended every temptation, the devil left from him until an (opportune) time.
14 And [the] Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to [the] Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.
15 And he was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he was had been brought up, and he went into the synagogue according to his custom in(=on) the day of Sabbaths(=the Sabbath day), and he stood up to read.
17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. And having opened the book, he found the place where it was [having been] written,
18 “(The) Spirit of (the) Lord (is) upon me, because he anointed me to evangelize (the) poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to (the) captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send in release(=to set at liberty) the ones having been oppressed,”
19 “to proclaim the acceptable year of (the) Lord.”
20 And having closed the book, having given (it) back to the attendant, he sat. And all the eyes in the synagogue were gazing(=fixed) (on) him,
21 And he began to say to them, “[that] Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.”
22 And all were speaking well of him, and were wandering at the words of grace(=the gracious words) coming out of his mouth, and they were saying, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
23 And he said (to) them, “Surely you will say to me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ Whatever we have heard happened in [the] Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.”
24 And he said, “Truly I say (to) you, ‘[that] no prophet is acceptable in his hometown,’”
25 “but on(=in) truth I say (to) you, ‘Many widows were in [the] Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was closed over three years and six months, when a great famine was over all the land,’”
26 “and to none of them was sent Elijah except to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman (who was) widow,”
27 “and many lepers were in [the] Israel in (the time) of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”
28 And all were filled of(=with) anger in the synagogue, hearing these things,
29 and having risen up, they drove him out of the city, and led him to a brow of the hill, on which their city had been(=was) built, in order to throw him down.
30 But he, having passed through the middle of them, was going (away).
31 And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and he was teaching them in(=on) the Sabbaths.
32 And they were amazed at his teaching, because his word was in(=with) authority.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out (with) a loud voice,
34 “Ah! What (is there) to us and to you(=What have you to do with us), Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.”
35 And [the] Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And having thrown him down in the midst, the demon came out from him, having not injured him.
36 And there was amazement upon all(=all were amazed). And they were talking to each other, saying, “What is this word? For in(=with) authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”
37 And a rumor about him was going out into every place of the surrounding country.
38 And having risen up from the synagogue, he entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s mother-in-law was being taken (with) a high fever. And they asked him for her.
39 And having stood over(# adverb as preposition) her, he rebuked the fever. And it left her. And immediately having risen up, she was serving them.
40 And the sun’s sinking(=when the sun was setting)2, all who had the ones being weak (with) various diseases led them to him. And putting (his) hands (on) every one of them, he was healing them.
41 And demons also was(=were) coming out from many, crying out and saying, “[that] You are the Son of God.” And rebuking, he was not allowing them to speak, because they had known(=were knowing)3 him to be the Christ(=that he was the Christ).
42 And day’s having come(=when it was day)4, having come out, he went to wilderness place. And the crowds were looking for him, and they came to him, and they were keeping him not to go from them.
43 And he said (to) them, “[that] It is necessary (for) me to evangelize(=preach) the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent on(=for) this.”
44 And he was proclaiming in the synagogues of Judea(=Galilee, !! different reading in some manuscripts).
