1 And immediately early (in the morning), having held a consultation, the high priests with the elders and scribes and all the council, having bound [the] Jesus, led (him) away and delivered (him to) Pilate.
2 And [the] Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” And he, having answered him, says, “You say (so).”
3 And the high priests were accusing him of many things.
4 And [the] Pilate was asking him again, saying, “Do you [not] answer nothing? Behold, how many things they are accusing you of.”
5 But Jesus answered nothing anymore, so that [the] Pilate to marvel(=so that Pilate marveled)1.
6 And at (the) feast(# distributive), he used to release(# imperfect) (for) them one prisoner whom they were requesting. 7 And there was the one being called Barabbas having been bound with the rebels who had done(=had committed) murder in the rebellion.
8 And having gone up(=having cried aloud, !! different reading in some manuscripts), the crowd began to ask (him to do) as he used to do(=usually did)2 for them.
9 And [the] Pilate answered (to) them, saying, “Do you want (that) I might release (to) you the king of the Jews?”
10 For he was knowing that because of envy the high priests had delivered him over.
11 But the high priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas (to) them.
12 And [the] Pilate, again having answered, was saying (to) them, “What might(=shall) I do(=What do you want me to do, !! different reading in some manuscripts), then, (with the one) whom you call the King of the Jews?”
13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him!”
14 But [the] Pilate was saying (to) them, “What evil did he do(=has he done)?” But they cried out more, “Crucify him!”
15 And [the] Pilate, wishing to make the crowd sufficient(=to satisfy the crowd), released [the] Barabbas to them, and handed [the] Jesus over, having flogged, so that he might be crucified.
16 And the soldiers led him away inside the court, which is Praetorium. And they call together all the cohort.
17 And they clothe him (with) purple. And they, having plaited a thorny crown, put (it on) him.
18 And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
19 And they were striking him (on) the head (with) reed, and were spitting (at) him. And placing knees(=kneeling), they were worshiping him.
20 And when they mocked him, they took off (from) him the purple and put on him his garments. And they lead him out so that they might crucify him.
21 And they compel a certain (man), Simon a Cyrenian passing by and coming from country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, that he might carry his cross.
22 And they bring him to the place Golgotha, that is translated the Place of Skull.
23 And they were giving(=tried to give.)3 him wine having been mixed with myrrh. But he did not take.
24 And they crucify him, and divide his garments, [the] casting a lot(=lots) for them (to decide) who would get what.
25 And it was (the) third hour. And they crucified him.
26 And there was the inscription of his indictment having been written, “The King of the Jews.”
27 And with him, they crucify two robbers, one from the right, and one from his left.
28 And the Scripture was fulfilled, saying, “He was numbered with (the) lawless.”4
29 And the ones passing by blasphemed him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! The one(=You who) destroying the temple and building in three days!”
30 “Save yourself, having come down from the cross.”
31 Likewise the high priests, mocking among themselves with the scribes, were saying, “He saved others, he is not able to save himself!”
32 “[The] Christ, the King of Israel! [Let him] Come down now from the cross that we might see and [might] believe.” The ones having been crucified with him also was reviling him.
33 And (the) sixth hour’s having come(=when the sixth hour had come)5, darkness came over the whole land until (the) ninth hour.
34 And (at) the ninth hour, [the] Jesus cried out (with) a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated “My God, My God, for what did you forsake(=why have you forsaken) me?”
35 And some of the ones standing by(# perfect as present), having heard (it), were saying. “Behold, he is calling Elias.”
36 And a certain one, having run, having filled a sponge (with) vinegar(=sour wine), and having put (it on) a reed, was giving him to drink(=offered it to him to drink)6, saying, “Leave(=Let him alone)! Let us see whether Elias comes to take him down.”
37 But [the] Jesus, having let out a loud voice, breathed his last.
38 And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39 And the centurion standing by(# perfect as present) from opposite him(=facing him), having seen that thus he breathed his last, said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
40 And there were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Little(=the younger) and Joses, and Salome,
41 who, when he was in Galilee, were following him and were serving him. And (there were) many other women having come up with him to Jerusalem.
42 And evening’s having already come(=when evening had come)7, because it was Preparation Day, which is the day before the Sabbath.
43 Having come, Joseph, the one from Arimathaes, an influential member of the council, who also was eagerly waiting(# periphrastic imperfect) the kingdom of God, having taken courage, went in to [the] Pilate and asked the body of Jesus.
44 And [the] Pilate marveled if he had already died(=if he were already dead). And having called the centurion, he asked him if he died some time ago(=if he had been dead for some time).
45 And having learned from the centurion, he granted the body (to) Joseph.
46 And having bought fine linen, having taken him down, he wrapped (it in) the fine linen and laid him in a tomb that had been hewn(# periphrastic pluperfect) out of rock. And he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.
47 And Mary the Magdalene and Mary the (mother) of Joses were watching where he has been laid(=was laid).
