1 And the Passover and the (feast of) Unleavened Bread were after two days. And the high priests and the scribes were seeking how they, having arrested in deceit(=by trickery), might kill him.
2 For they were saying, “Not in(=during) the feast, lest there [will] be a riot of the people.”
3 And his being(=when he was)1 in Bethany in the house of Simon, the leper, his reclining (at table)(=when he was dining)2, a woman came having a alabaster jar of perfume, pure nard, very costly. Having broken the alabaster jar, she poured (it on) his head.
4 And some were being angry(# periphrastic imperfect) to themselves. “For what(=Why) was the waste of this perfume made?”
5 “For this perfume was being able to be sold(=could have been sold) over(=more than) three hundred denarii and to be given(=could have been given) to the poor.” And they were snorting to her(=criticized her sharply).
6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She did good work in(=for) me.”
7 “For you always have the poor with yourselves(=you). And whenever you [may] want, you are able to do them good. But you do not always have(=will not always have) me.”
8 “She did what she had(=could). She anticipated to anoint my body(=anointed my body beforehand) for the(=my) burial.”
9 “And truly I tell you. Wherever the gospel might be proclaimed into the whole world, what this (woman) did(=has done) will also be told for her memorial(=in memory of her).”
10 And Judas Iscariot, the one of the twelve, went to the high priests in order that he might betray him to them.
11 And having heard, they were glad, and promised to give him silver(=money). And he was seeking how he might conveniently betray him.
12 And (on) the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they were sacrificing(=used to kill) the Passover lamb, his disciples say (to) him, “Where do you want (that) we, having gone, might prepare that you might eat the Passover lamb?”
13 And he sends two of his disciples, and says (to) them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.”
14 “And wherever he might enter, say (to) the owner of the house, ‘[that] The teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I might eat the Passover lamb with my disciples?’”
15 “And he will show you a large upper room having been spread(=furnished) (and) ready. And there make ready for us.”
16 And the disciples went out, and came into the city, and found (it) as he told(=had said to) them. And they prepared the Passover lamb.
17 And evening’s having become(=when it was evening)3, he comes with the twelve.
18 And their reclining (at table) and eating(=when they were reclining and eating)4, [the] Jesus said, “Truly I tell you that one of you will betray me, the one eating with me.”
19 They began to be sorrowful, and to say (to) him one by one. “Surely, not I?”
20 And he said (to) them, “(It is) one of the twelve, the one dipping with me into the dish.”
21 “For the Son of Man indeed goes just as it has been written about him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed. (It would have been) good thing (for) him(=that man) if that man(=him) was not born(=had not been born).”
22 And their eating(=while they were eating)5, having taken bread and having blessed (it), he broke (it), and gave (it to) them, and said, “Take, eat6. This is my body.”
23 And having taken a cup, having given thanks, he gave (it to) them. And they all drank of(=from) it.
24 And he said (to) them, “This is my blood of the new7 covenant being poured out(=shed) for many.”
25 “Truly I say (to) you, ‘I might(=will) not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’”
26 And having sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
27 And [the] Jesus says (to) them, “You all will stumble(=fall away) because it has been written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’”
28 “But after for me to be raised(=after I am raised up), I will go before you to Galilee.”
29 And Peter was saying (to) him, “Even if all will stumble(=fall away), but I (will) not.”
30 And [the] Jesus says (to) him, “Truly I say (to) you, that today, (in) this night, before a rooster to crow twice(=before the rooster crows twice), you will deny me three times.”
31 But he was insistently saying, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” They all were saying likewise.
32 And they go to (the) place whose name (was) Gethsemane. And he says (to) his disciples, “Sit here while I [might] pray.”
33 And he takes [the] Peter and [the] James and [the] John with him. And he began to be much dismayed and to be deeply distressed.
34 And he says (to) them, “My soul is very sorrowful, (even) to death. Stay here and watch.”
35 And having gone forward a little, he was falling on the ground, and was praying that, if it is(=were) possible, the hour might pass away from him.
36 And he was saying, “Abba, [the] Father, all things (are) possible (to) you. Take away this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you (will).”
37 And he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says (to) [the] Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Were you not able to watch one hour?”
38 “Watch and pray that you might not enter(=fall) into temptation. The spirit indeed (is) eager(=willing), but the flesh (is) weak.”
39 And again having gone away, he prayed having said8 the same word.
40 And again having come, he found them sleeping. For their eyes were being heavy(=were very heavy)9. And they did not know(# pluperfect as imperfect) what they might answer him.
41 And he comes the third time and says (to) them, “Sleep from now on and take (your) rest(=Are you still sleeping and taking your rest?)10. It is enough(=Enough!)11. The hour came(=has come). Behold, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.”
42 “Rise! Let us go! Behold, the one betraying me has come near(=is at hand).”
43 And immediately, still his speaking(=while he is still speaking)12, Judas, one of the twelve, comes. And with him (is) a crowd with swords and clubs from the high priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And the one betraying him had given them a sign, saying, “Whomsoever I might kiss, that is he. Seize him and lead (him) away safely.”
45 And having come, immediately having approached him, he says, “Rabbi.” And he kissed him.
46 And they laid hands (on) him, and seized him.
47 But a certain one of the ones having stood by, having drawn the sword, struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And having answered, [the] Jesus said (to) them, “As against a robber(=bandit), have you come out with swords and clubs to capture me?”
49 “Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching. And you did not seize me. But (this is done) that the Scriptures might be fulfilled.”
50 And having left him, they all fled.
51 And a certain young man was following him, having linen garment put around (his) naked (body). And they(=the young men, !! the different subject added in some manuscripts) seize him.
52 And having abandoned the linen garment, he fled naked.
53 And they led [the] Jesus away to the high priest. And all the high priests and the elders and the scribes come together.
54 And [the] Peter followed him from afar(=at a distance), until inside to(=right into) the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting(# periphrastic imperfect) with the guards, and warming himself at the fire.
55 And the high priests and the whole council were looking for testimony against [the] Jesus for the to put him to death(=so that they could put him to death). And(=But) they were not finding.
56 For many were giving false testimony against him. And(=But) the testimonies were not same(=did not agree).
57 And some, having stood up, were giving false testimony against him, saying,
58 “[that] We heard him saying(=say), ‘[that] I will destroy this temple made with hands, and through(=within) three days I will build another (temple) made without hands.’”
59 And not even so was their testimony same(=did their testimony agree).
60 And having stood up, the high priest in the midst asked [the] Jesus, saying, “Do you answer nothing? What (is it that) these men are testifying against you?”
61 But he was being silent(=kept silent) and [not] answered nothing. Again the high priest was asking him, and says (to) him, “Are you the Christ, the son of the Blessed One?”
62 And Jesus said, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at (the) right (hand) of the Power(=Mighty One), and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
63 And the high priest, having torn his tunics, says. “Why do we [have] need (more) testimonies(=witnesses)?”
64 “You heard(=have heard) the blasphemy. How does it seem to you(=What do you think)?” And they all condemned him to be liable to death(=to be deserving of death).
65 And some began to spit at him, and to cover his face, and to strike him, and to say (to) him, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him (with) slaps(=beat him).
66 And [the] Peter’s being(=when Peter was)13 below in the courtyard, one of the maids of the high priest comes.
67 And having seen [the] Peter warming himself, having looked closely at him, she says, “You also were being with the Nazarene, Jesus!”
68 But he denied, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out into the front courtyard(=entryway). And a rooster crowed14
69 And the maid, having seen him, began again to say to the bystanders, “[that] This is (one) of them.”
70 But he was denying again. And after a little while, the ones standing by were saying (to) [the] Peter again, “Truly you are (one) of them. For you are a Galilean. And your speech is like15”
71 And he began to curse and to swear, “[that] I don’t know this man of whom you are speaking.”
72 And immediately a rooster crowed the second time. And [the] Peter remembered the word that [the] Jesus said (to) him, “[that] Before a rooster to crow(=crows) twice, you will deny me three times.” And having put on(=having thought about it, !! uncertain meaning here), he was crying.
