1 And it came to pass, when [the] Jesus finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there [of] to teach and to proclaim in their cities.
2 And [the] John, having heard in [the] prison the works of Christ, (and) having sent, through his disciples,
3 said (to) him, “Are you the one coming(=who is to come), or may we expect another?”
4 And having answered, [the] Jesus said (to) them, “Having gone, report to John what you hear and see.”
5 “The blind see again, and the lame walk. lepers are cleansed, and (the) deaf hear. And the dead are raised, and the poor are evangelized.”
6 “And blessed is the one who [might] not stumble in(=because of) me.”
7 And these going(=as these disciple went)1, [the] Jesus began to say to the crowd about John, “What did you do out into the wilderness to see? A reed being shaken by wind?”
8 “But what did you go out to see? A man having clothed in fine clothes? Behold, the ones wearing the find clothes (are) in kings’ houses.”
9 “But what did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I say (to) you, and more than a prophet.”
10 “This is he about whom it has been written. ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’”
11 “Truly I say (to) you, “There has not risen one among those born of women greater than John the Baptist. But the least one in the kingdom of [the] heavens is greater than he.”
12 “And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of [the] heavens suffers forcibly, and forceful men seize(=take by force) it.”
13 “For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.”
14 “And if you are willing to receive (it), he is Elijah who is to come.”
15 “The one having ears, let him hear.”
16 “And to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces who calling to the others.”
17 “They say, ‘We piped (to) you and you did not dance. We wailed and you did not mourn.’”
18 “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has demon’”
19 “And the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ And [the] wisdom was justified from(=by) her works.”
20 Then he began to rebuke the cities in which his very many miracles happened, because they did not repent.
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles having been done in you were [being] done in Tyre and Sidon, long ago they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes.”
22 “But I say (to) you, ‘It will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in(=on) (the) day of judgment than for you.’”
23 “And you, Capernaum, [Not(#expecting the answer ‘No’)] Will you be exalted as far as heaven? You will go down as far as Hades. For if the miracles having been done in you have been done in Sodom, it would have remained until [the] today.”
24 “But I say (to) you that for (the) land of Sodom it will be more tolerable in(=on) (the) day of judgment than for you.”
25 At that time, having answered, [the] Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of [the] heaven and [the] earth, that you have hidden these things from (the) wise and (the) intelligent, and have revealed them to infants(=the simple).”
26 “Yes, [the] Father, for such was good pleasure before you.”
27 “All things were delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows the son except [the] Father, neither anyone knows the Father except the son and (the one) to whomever the son will to reveal.”
28 “Come to me, all (you) laboring and having been burdened, and I will give you rest.”
29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. And you will find rest to(=for) your souls.”
30 “For my yoke (is) easy and my burden is light.”
