1 Then [the] Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 And having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward he was hungry.
3 And the tempting one, having approached, said (to) him, “If you are (the) Son of God, command that these stones might become loaves.”
4 And he, having answered, said, “It has been written, ‘[The] Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word proceeding through (the) mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil takes him into the holy city, and had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple.
6 And he says (to) him, “If you are (the) Son of God, throw yourself down. For it has been written, ‘[that] He will give his angels charge over you, and they will lift you up on (their) hands lest you [might] strike your foot against a stone.’”
7 [The] Jesus said (to) him, “Again it has been written, ‘You shall not tempt (the) Lord your God.’”
8 Again, the devil takes him to a very high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 And he said (to) him, “all these things I will give you, if you, having fallen down, might(=will) worship me.”
10 Then [the] Jesus says (to) him, “Go away, Satan. For it has been written, ‘You shall worship (the) Lord your God, and [you shall] serve him only.’”
11 Then the devil leaves him. And behold, angels came and was ministering to him.
12 And having heard that John was handed over(=had been arrested), he withdrew into [the] Galilee.
13 And having left [the] Nazareth, he, having come, lived in Capernaum by the sea in (the) districts of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 so that the thing [having been] spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, (the) way of (the) sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,”
16 “The people sitting in darkness saw a great light, and to them sitting in (the) region and shadow of death a light has risen.”
17 From that time [the] Jesus began to proclaim, and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of [the] heavens has come near.”
18 And walking beside the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon being called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
19 And he says (to) them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishermen of men.”
20 And they, having immediately left the nets, followed him.
21 And having gone on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the (son) of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them.
22 And they, having immediately left the boat and their father, followed him.
23 And he was going around in all [the] Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
24 And his fame went into(=throughout) the whole Syria. And they brought to him all the ones having sickness and being afflicted (with) various diseases and pains, and the demon-possessed, and epileptics, and the paralytics. And he healed them.
25 And great crowds from [the] Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and (from) beyond the Jordan followed him.
