(=alt.word)  ·  (added word)  ·  [omit]

Then the first (covenant) was having(=had) both regulations of worship and the earthly sanctuary,

for a tabernacle was constructed; the first one, in which (were) the lampstand, and the table, and the laying out of the loaves(=the showbread); which is called the Holy Place.

And behind the second curtain (was) a tabernacle being called (the) Holy of Holies,

having a golden censer and the ark of the covenant having been covered over on all sides (with) gold, in which (were) a golden jar having the manna, [and] Aaron’s rod having budded, and the tablets of the covenant;

and above it (were the) cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat, of which now it is not (the time) to speak in detail.

And these things’ having been prepared(=when these things had been prepared)1 like this, on one hand, the priests always go into the first tent, performing the services,

on the other, the high priest alone (goes) into the second (tent) once of the year(=a year), not without blood, which he offers for himself and (for) ignorances of the people(=sins committed in ignorance of the people).

The Holy Spirit’s showing(=The Holy Spirit indicates)2 this, the way of the Holies(=that the way into the Holy of Holies) not yet to have been manifested(=had not yet been disclosed), the first tent’s having(=while the first tent was)3 still standing,

which (is) a parable for the time having had come(=the present time), according to which both gifts and sacrifices are offered, not being able to perfect the serving one(=worshiper) in regard to (the) conscience,

(being) only on foods and drinks and various washings, regulations of flesh(=for the body) being imposed until (the) time of reformation.

And Christ having appeared(=came) (as) a high priest of the good things having come, through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, this is, not of this creation;

he entered once for all into the Holies(=Holy of Holies), not through blood of goats and calves, but through the(=his) own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

For if the blood of goats and bulls and ashes of heifer, sprinkling the ones having been defiled, sanctify for the purification of the flesh;

how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, purify our conscience from dead works [for the] to serve (the) living God?

And for this reason he is (the) mediator of a new covenant, so that the ones having been called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance, death’s having occurred(=because a death has occurred)4 for redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant.

For where (there is) a covenant(=will), necessity to be brought(=it is necessary to prove) (the) death of the one having made (the will),

for covenant(=will) (is) firm(=takes effect) at death, since it is never strong(=never takes effect) when the one having made covenant(=will) lives.

Hence the first (covenant) has not been dedicated(=was inaugurated) without blood.

For every commandment’s having been said according to the law(=when every commandment according to the law had been told)5 by Moses to all the people, having taken(=he took) the blood of the calves and of goats with water, [and] scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book and all the people,

saying, “This (is) the blood of the covenant which [the] God commanded for you.”

And likewise he sprinkled (with) the blood both the tent and all the vessels of the worship.

And almost all things is(=are) purified in(=with) (the) blood according to the law, and without (the) shedding of blood (there) becomes(=is) no forgiveness.

Therefore necessity(=it was necessary), on one hand, (for) the copies of the things in [the] heavens to be purified (with) these; on the other hand, (for) the heavenly things themselves (with) better sacrifices than these.

For Christ did not enter into Holies(=the sanctuary) made with hands, (which are) copies of the true things, but into the heaven itself, now to appear (in) the presence of God for us,

not in order that he may offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the Holies(=the sanctuary) every year with blood of another;

since it would have been necessary (for) him to suffer(=he would have had to suffer) often from(=since the) foundation of (the) world, but now he has been manifested once for all at fullness of the ages(=at the end of the ages) for annulment of(=to put away) sin through (the) sacrifice of himself.

And just as it is appointed (for) the men to die once, and after this (the) judgment,

and so [the] Christ, having been once offered [for] to bear the sins of many, will appear [from] a second (time) without sin to the ones eagerly waiting for him, unto salvation.
