1 Paul, a slave of God, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to (the) faith of God’s elect and (the) knowledge of (the) truth (which is) according to godliness,

2 on(=in the) hope of eternal life which [the] God, (who is) free from falsehood, promised before eternal times,

3 and manifested (at) His own times(=in due time) His word in(=through) (the) proclamation with which I have been entrusted according to (the) command of God our Savior,

4 To Titus, a true child according to(=in) a common faith. Grace and peace from God (the) Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

5 I left you in Crete for this reason, so that you should set in order the things remaining(=what was left to be done) and should appoint elders in (every) town, as I directed you,

6 if anyone is blameless, (the) husband of one wife, having faithful children not in accusation of dissipation or rebellious.

7 For it is necessary (for) the bishop to be blameless as a steward of God, not arrogant, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain,

8 but hospitable, loving (what is) good, sober-minded, just, devout, self-controlled,

9 holding fast the faithful word (which is) according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort by the sound doctrine and to refute the opposing ones.

10 For there are many rebellious (men), vain talkers and deceivers, especially the ones of the circumcision,

11 whom it is necessary to be silenced(=whose mouth must be stopped), who are upsetting whole households, teaching what they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans (are) always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

13 This testimony is true. For which reason(=Therefore) rebuke them severely, so that they may be sound in the faith,

14 not paying attention to Jewish myths and(=or) to commandments of men turning from the truth.

15 To the pure, all things (are) pure. But to the ones having been defiled and unbelieving, nothing (is) pure, but both their mind and conscience have been(=are) defiled

16 They profess to know God, but (by) the(=their) works they deny (Him), being abominable and disobedient and unfit for every good work.
