I made the first account about all things, O! Theophilus, which Jesus began both to do and teach

until the day on which, having commanded through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he chose, he was taken up

to whom also he presented himself living, after for him to suffer, by many sure signs, being seen by them through forty days and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God.

Meeting together, he commanded them not to leave from Jerusalem, but to await the promise of the Father which you have heard of me.

Because John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days later.

The ones, therefore, having come together were asking him, saying, “Lord, do you restore at this time the kingdom to Israel?”

He said (to) them. “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in the own authority.”

“But you will receive power, having come of the Holy Sprit(=when the Holy Spirit comes)1 upon you. And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth.”

And after having said these things, their looking(=as they were looking)2, he was taken up. And a cloud received him from their eyes(=sight).

And as they were gazing(# periphrastic imperfect) at heaven his going(=while he was going)3, and behold, two men clothed in white were standing (beside) them.

And they also said, “Men of Galilee! Why do you stand looking to the heaven? This Jesus having taken up from you to the heaven will come such a way that you have seen him going to the heaven.”

Then they turned back to Jerusalem from (the) mount being called “Olive Grove”, that is near Jerusalem being a Sabbath day’s way(=walk).

And when they entered, they went up into the upper room where Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philippos and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James (son) of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas (son) of James were staying(# periphrastic imperfect).

These all were continuing with one mind in [the] prayer with women and Mary the mother of Jesus and his brothers.

And in those days, having stood up, Peter in the middle of the brothers said. (The) crowd of persons(# Hebraic usage) was at the same (place) about one hundred twenty.

“Men, Brothers! It was necessary (for) the Scripture to have been fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold through David’s mouth about Judas having been guide to those having arrested Jesus.”

“Because he was having numbered among us and received the lot of this ministry.”

“Then this (man) indeed bought a field from reward of wickedness. And having fallen face downwards, (the) middle was bust open, and all his entrails were poured out.”

“And it was known to all living in Jerusalem, so that field was called in their own language ‘Akeldama,’ that is, the Field of Blood.”

“Because it was written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his residence be deserted, and don’t let the one living be in it. And let another take his superintendency.’”

“Therefore, it is necessary, among the men having been with us in all (the) time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out from us,”

“beginning from the baptism of John until the day that he was taken up from us, (for) one of these (men) to become a witness of his resurrection with us.”

And they appointed two: Joseph being called Barsabbas who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.

And having prayed, they said, “You, Lord, heart-knower of all (men), show whom you have chosen one of these two”

“to take the place of this ministry and apostleship from which Judas went aside to go to his own place.”

And they gave lots for them. and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was reckoned along with the eleven apostles.
