(The) beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God1.

As it has been written in (the book) of Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face(=ahead of you)2, who will prepare(=build) your way;

a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight’”

John came, (who) baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.

And he was proclaiming, saying, “The One mightier than I comes(=will come)4 after me, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy, having stooped down, to untie.

I baptized you (with) water, but he will baptize you in(=with) (the) Holy Spirit.”

And it came to pass in those days (that) Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized into the Jordan by John.

And immediately, coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens being splitted and the (Holy) Spirit coming down into him like a dove.

And a voice was(=was heard, !! different reading in some manuscripts) from heavens, “You are my beloved son; in(=with) you I am well pleased.”

And immediately the (Holy) Spirit drives(# historical present tense) him out into the wilderness.

And passing along beside the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea, for they were fishermen.

And [the] Jesus said (to) them, “Come after(=Follow) me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

And immediately having left the nets, they followed him.

And having gone a little farther, he saw James the (son) of Zebedee and John his brother, them also mending the nets in the boat(=who also were in the boat mending the nets).

And immediately he called them. And having left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, they went after(=followed) him.

And they go(# historical present tense) into Capernaum. And immediately (on) the Sabbaths(=Sabbath) having gone into the synagogue, he was teaching(==began to teach).

And immediately there was in their synagogue a man in(=with) an unclean spirit, and he cried out,

saying, “What is there to us and to you(=What have you to do with us), Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are, the holy One of God.”

And [the] Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”

And having convulsed him and having cried with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him.

And they were all marvelled, so as to discuss(=so that they questioned) among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! And he commands the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”

And the report of(=about) him immediately went(=spread) everywhere into(=throughout) all the district of Galilee.

And immediately having gone out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.

But the mother-in-law of Simon was being laid having fever, and immediately they tell(# historical present tense) him about her.

And all the city was having been assembled(=were gathered)7 at the door.

And he healed many having(=being) sick (with) various diseases, and he cast out many demons, and he was not allowing the demons to speak because they knew him.

And early very night(=very early morning in the night), having gotten up, he went out and went away to a desert place, and there he was praying.

And Simon and the ones with him sought out him,

and they found him. And they say(# historical present tense) (to) him, “[that] All are seeking you.”

And he says(# historical present tense) (to) them, “Let us go elsewhere(=Let us go on) into the neighbouring towns, so that I might proclaim there also because for this I came out.”

And he came into(=throughout) all Galilee, having proclaimed into their synagogues and casting out the demons.

And a leper comes(# historical present tense) to him, begging him, and kneeling8, and saying (to) him, “[that] If you [may] will, you are able to make me clean.”

And having been moved with compassion, having stretched out the hand, he touched (him) and says(# historical present tense) (to) him. “I will, be cleansed.”

And immediately the leprosy left [from] him, and he was cleansed.

And he says(# historical present tense) (to) him, “See (that) you [might] say nothing (to) none(=any one). But go, show yourself (to) the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for testimony (to) them.”

But having gone out, the one(=he) began to proclaim (it) much and to spread the word(=matter), so as him to be able to enter(=so that he can enter) no longer openly into a city, but he was outside in desert places. And they were coming to him from everywhere.
